Your Honor, She’s Serving
Kim Kardashian’s wardrobe in Ryan Murphy's All’s Fair is unrealistic, unhinged, and absolutely iconic.
Unsurprisingly, I’ve been watching Ryan Murphy’s latest show, All’s Fair, and one thing’s for sure: Kim Kardashian’s wardrobe as Allura Grant is next-level. Like, this might be the greatest fashion we’ve seen from her on screen – ever.
The legal drama, created by Murphy, follows a group of powerhouse female divorce attorneys who break away from a male-dominated firm to start their own practice. The cast lineup alone is insane: Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash-Betts, Teyana Taylor, Sarah Paulson, and Glenn Close. But for me? Kim’s fashion is the highlight.
Soki Mak, who handled Kim’s costumes (with Paula Bradley designing for the rest of the show), clearly understood the assignment. Allura Grant’s wardrobe is dripping in archival luxury – a mix of late ‘90s and early 2000s pieces that scream power and polish. From Jean Paul Gaultier to Donna Karan to Chanel – we got something from all the greats.
There’s this elegant John Galliano for Dior Spring 2001 dress that actually made me gasp. Then we got that silk Roberto Cavalli animal print moment. And the Valentino dress paired with a Swarovski choker, and the most perfect Balenciaga sunnies? That look might just be my favorite so far.
Let’s talk about that corseted white bodice dress. As if it weren’t sexy enough, they paired it with red fishnets and a red Hermès Birkin to match. Lived for it. The Fleur Du Mal x Galia Lahav beaded fringe detailed pants? To die for. And don’t even get me started on the vintage Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2008 red crocodile trench coat – pure bad b*tchery. Oh, and seeing Kim in Vivienne Westwood? Much needed. The layered pearl necklace moment with that iconic Westwood emblem was legendary.
And the glam has been just as good as the fashion. Kim has been serving face every single episode. The makeup (Kate Biscoe and Kaela Dobson listed as Makeup Department Heads) is exceptional. And the hair? I can’t get enough of the slicked bob moments and classic Hollywood blowouts. I’m getting a lot of Elizabeth Taylor, Louise Brooks, Rita Hayworth energy. Obsessed.
But not everyone’s living for it. Kim’s All’s Fair wardrobe has sparked a bit of backlash online, with some people calling it unrealistic or “inappropriate” for a lawyer. One Twitter user joked, “I’m watching ‘All’s Fair’ and I’m screaminngggg!!! Ain’t no way an attorney is wearing this to work @KimKardashian you are just toooooo sexy, bitch!!!” Another said, “Kimberley can’t act, but the costume department can’t style. Wtf is this LAWYER outfit? At the office?? For a settlement meeting???”
Others took a more tongue-in-cheek approach: “I’m watching #AllsFair and Kim is such a one-note actress, the writing feels so AI and the costuming is so ‘gay people will watch this so they’re gonna live if we put her in this grey dune bondage dress.’ That being said… It’s cute asf like I could watch it to kiki lol.” And then there’s the harsher side of Twitter: “All’s Fair is so bad, it’s simply bad. Wealth porn is tied together by a terrible storyline that’s clearly written by men with no understanding of women. The costumes are so over-styled that they look uncomfortable and cheap. And Kim Kardashian’s ‘acting’… well.”
Personally, I kind of love that the fashion is polarizing. It’s bold, exaggerated, and completely out of step with reality – which is exactly what makes it so Ryan Murphy. I don’t think this show is even trying to be realistic. I mean, come on; Jessica Simpson throwing acid on her rockstar ex’s face? Kim Kardashian’s ass hanging out of a pinstripe skirt in the middle of a firm? We’re clearly not watching The Good Wife.
All’s Fair is camp – full stop. It’s over the top, unapologetic, and dripping in drama, which perfectly aligns with both Ryan Murphy and Kim Kardashian’s brands. That’s what they live for. And honestly? That’s what I live for too. The show doesn’t need to give us an accurate peek into the legal world; it gives us something better – a chance to collectively gag over iconic fashion, cheeky one-liners, and hot women doing hot girl shit.
If anything, setting all of that in the world of law makes it even more empowering. It flips the script — taking a traditionally “serious,” male-dominated space and turning it into a high-glam, female-powered fantasy. So no, maybe Allura Grant wouldn’t actually walk into a courtroom in a corset and fishnets… but would I want to watch her do it every week? Absolutely.
So what do you think of Allura Grant’s wardrobe? Are you as into it as I am, or are the Galliano and Gaultier moments not enough to distract you from the chaos?
